How I Save Money on Travel Now (Why I Stopped Booking the Old Way)
There's a moment most of us have had.
You book a hotel, feel pretty good about the price, and then mention it to someone who says -- "oh, I got the same room for way less."
Or you find out after the fact that there was a better deal sitting right there the whole time. You just didn't have access to it.
That used to happen to me more than I'd like to admit. And it's not because I wasn't trying. It's because I was booking travel the same way most people do -- using public sites, comparing a few options, hoping for the best, and moving on.
What I didn't know then is that those sites aren't built for savings. They're built for convenience. And there's a markup baked into almost every booking.
What I Found
I was introduced to something called a wholesale travel membership -- and once I understood how it worked, I couldn't un-see it.
Think of it like a Costco membership, but for travel.
You pay a monthly membership fee, and in return you unlock access to wholesale-level pricing on hotels, resorts, condos, cruises, and car rentals -- often up to 65% less than what you'd find on public booking sites.
No blackout dates. No points to track. No complicated rules.
You're not earning credits or waiting for a sale. You're simply getting access to better pricing because you're a member.
The platform I use is through Tranont Travel -- and I want to show you exactly what that looks like in real life.
Real Members. Real Savings. Real Trips.
I could tell you the savings are significant. But I'd rather show you.
A few Tranont Travel members recently shared their savings with me -- and the numbers are hard to ignore.
Salt Lake City -- Business Travel
One member was headed to Salt Lake City for a conference and needed a hotel near the airport with free breakfast and an airport shuttle. She compared three options side by side:
- Hotel's website: $115.83 total
- Popular booking site: $125 total
- Tranont Travel Portal: $74 total -- best price
Same hotel. Same dates. Three different prices. The membership won every time.
And that's just one trip. Since joining in October she has saved approximately $2,000 on hotels and resorts -- while spending just $780 in membership fees over the course of the year. The math speaks for itself.
Disney/Universal -- Family Travel
Another member booked an on-property resort for a Disney and Universal trip with her family. Here's what she found:
- Popular booking site: $1,980 total
- Tranont Travel Portal: $1,378 total
That's $602 saved. On the same resort. For the same dates.
That's not a small difference -- that's another trip.
Beach Resort -- Family Life Happens
A third member needed a comfortable place for her family to gather for an important family event. She found a 4-star beachfront resort and compared prices:
- Popular discount hotel site: $335 total
- Tranont Travel Portal: $231 total
Studio Ocean View. Kitchenette. Two beds. $104 less than the next best price she found.
As she put it -- "It's not just about vacations. It's about having real options and real savings when life happens."
That line has stuck with me.
The Vacation Savings Plan Angle
Here's the thing that really clicked for me when I learned about this membership.
You might remember Christmas Club savings accounts. You'd set aside a small amount each month, barely notice it, and then at the end of the year you had something meaningful saved.
That's exactly how I think about my monthly membership fee. I'm essentially putting money into a vacation savings plan. I barely notice it month to month -- and after 12 consecutive months of active membership, I earn an Annual Reward Trip at one of 3,000+ destinations worldwide.
Many of those destinations retail for $2,000 to $3,000 or more. Members cover applicable taxes and fees.
It's not a gimmick. It's not magic. It's just consistent, intentional planning.
This Isn't Just for Vacations
One of the things I love most about this membership is that it's built for real life -- not just bucket list trips.
It works for:
- Family vacations -- hotels, condos, and resorts that make traveling together more affordable
- Business travel -- hotels and car rentals that often beat corporate booking sites
- Sports travel -- tournaments, weekend competitions, and out-of-town games where hotel costs add up fast
- Weekend getaways -- quick trips that feel easier when you save money booking them
- Life events -- weddings, reunions, graduations, and last-minute trips
If you travel at all -- even occasionally -- this membership is worth understanding.
This Might Be for You If...
- You like the idea of traveling more without overpaying
- You appreciate simple, digital tools
- You're in a season where experiences matter more than stuff
- You prefer planning ahead over scrambling later
This might not be for you if...
- You're only looking for one-time deals with no long-term value
- You don't plan to travel at all in the next year
And that's okay too.
